New $395K mammography machine at Chilliwack General Hospital will advance women’s health care, area foundation says
CHILLIWACK — If there’s good news coming out of the Chilliwack General Hospital (CGH) these days, it’s the advent of a state-of-the-art mammography machine that will help advance women’s health care and hopefully reduce wait times for Chilliwack women.
According to the fall newsletter from the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation that was mailed to supporters this past week, CGH will soon offer an advanced mammography unit, an essential tool for detecting breast cancer.
“I am pleased to announce that the Crystal Gala Foundation, whose mission is to support breast health in the Fraser Valley East, have come forward and pledged to use some of the proceeds from the annual Crystal Gala — to be held at the Tradex in Abbotsford October 22 — towards the purchase of the new mammography machine for CGH,” said Liz Harris, executive director of FVHCF. “Having the new mammogram machine will reduce wait and travel times for those going to Abbotsford and earlier diagnosis will mean better outcomes for most patients.”
According to the foundation, the new $395,000 machine should reduce wait times through faster and more efficient scans because the new equipment’s enhanced technology consists of advances in breast imaging and digital mammography.
