Proposed liquor store at Cottonwood Mall to head to Oct. 4 public hearing
CHILLIWACK — Without any comment at its meeting Tuesday (Sept. 20), Chilliwack City Council voted to allow an application for a proposed liquor store at Cottonwood Mall to proceed towards a public hearing on October 4.
Chilliwack City Council gave the application first and second reading Tuesday, and allowed a proposal that would rezone a section of the Cottonwood Mall from a shopping centre to a liquor store and renovate the existing food court area and remove a section of Dollarama.
The development proposal calls for a new liquor store and three commercial retail units, removal of part of the existing food court area and a portion of Dollarama, future renovation of the food court, creation of a new mall entrance with a separate entry for the proposed liquor store, relocation of the exterior garbage areas and compactor, addition of a loading dock for the liquor store, and reconfiguration of parking areas along with renovation of parking islands featuring new line painting.
According to a City of Chilliwack staff report, once the bylaw has been heard at a public hearing, it is recommended the application be held at a third reading until a definite liquor store tenant is secured and confirmed for the proposed location.
