CHILLIWACK — Patti MacAhonic, executive director for Chilliwack’s Ann Davis Tansition Society, was excited to announce the local non-profit had won a Purple Ribbon Award for their “Walk through that door” music video.

The award is through DomesticShelters.org—the first and largest online directory of domestic violence programs and shelters across the U.S. and Canada.

“One of our board members, at the time, came up with a song, and I heard it and I thought, ‘wow, it’s just so moving,'” said MacAhonic.

That board member was Barry Stevenson, who wrote and donated the song to the Ann Davis Transition Society. Jenna Walther was another singer that accompanied Stevenson on the track.

“She worked with him, and she sang and helped get it produced,” MacAhonic said.

The executive director remarked that she usually lets people know there is a trigger warning before they watch the video.

She elaborated, “It’s very real, and people are very moved and very affected. And anyone that’s experienced domestic violence can be very triggered at first. At the same time, it’s really what happens—this is what happens.”

MacAhonic was thrilled that the song and video were put together “organically” by people such as Stevenson and Jenna, who are both working to help diminish domestic violence.

“The video itself is just really rooted in reality and very impactful,” she said.
