CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack City Council will deliberate today (Sept. 20) over an application that would rezone a section of the Cottonwood Mall from a shopping centre to a liquor store and renovate the existing food court area and remove a section of Dollarama.

Under agenda item 7.5 of today’s council meeting, Chilliwack councillors will review an application to build a liquor store near the Dollarama retail store inside the mall, located at 45585 Luckakuck Way, and set a public hearing for October 4.

The proposal calls for a new liquor store and three commercial retail units, removal of the existing food court area and a portion of Dollarama, future renovation of the food court, creation of a new mall entrance with a separate entry for the proposed liquor store, relocation of the exterior garbage areas and compactor, addition of a loading dock for the liquor store, and reconfiguration of parking areas along with renovation of parking islands with new line painting.

According to a City of Chilliwack staff report, it is recommended the application be held until a definite liquor store tenant is secured.
