CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack City Council will consider a development permit application for a proposed bike shop, Pedal Sport Bicycle, not far from its current location.

Councillors are scheduled to vote today (Sept. 20) on a development permit application for a contemporary retail bike shop at its afternoon meeting.

Pedal Sport is presently located at 9020 Young Road and has been a fixture in the Chilliwack community since 1992. It has approximately five staff and a CEO, Dave Graham, according to its website (www.pedalsport.com). The bike shop counts safety checks, tuneups, and overhauls among its repair services, and specializes in the sales and service of mountain, road, and hybrid bikes, as well as E-bikes.

The proposed retail site currently sits on vacant land at 45960 Alexander Avenue, just west of the Great Canadian Oil Change business at Young Road and Alexander Avenue, and next to Musicworx.

The lot is approximately 10,889 square feet, according to B.C. Assessment public records. The lot was last sold in January 2021.

The proposed development consists of a commercial building of 471 square metres, a modern design featuring a contemporary finishes, including a mural oriented towards Railway Avenue facing south, 11 off-street parking spaces, one off-street loading space, and five trees, which are required.

According to a staff report, the development is characterized by a contemporary design and complementary colours that contribute visual interest and appeal.

Premium wood grain longboard would feature prominently into the front of the building, complemented by black metal textured roofing.
