CHILLIWACK — Following a week of pool closures as the result of the YMCA takeover as the exclusive operator of the Cheam Leisure Centre and Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre, there’s good news for people who want to get back into the pool.

The Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre will gradually re-open its pool starting tomorrow, September 17 while the recreation centre hires and trains aquatics personnel. Pool hours are estimated to be 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., according to its website: https://www.gv.ymca.ca/chilliwack-landing-leisure-centre?fbclid=IwAR0otpID0Pci1n-KLSBDF8bBp0sSFp3lH1iQRxGBC9_lTyBMPoxCj71jzGk

The Landing Centre is asking the public to check its website and social media sites for frequent updates on its aquatic hours of operation.

Hours will vary each day while aquatics personnel are on-boarded.

The pool will be open for lane swimming tomorrow.

There was no social media update about the Cheam Leisure Centre on either the City of Chilliwack Facebook page or the Cheam Leisure Centre Friday afternoon.

Chilliwack City Council voted back on August 16 to award a five-year contract to the YMCA of Greater Vancouver to run two leisure centres and an outdoor pool. The contract runs through September 2027 at a cost of just over $10 million versus a much higher bid of $13.1 million from Recreation Excellence.
