City of Abbotsford facilities closed Sept. 19 to observe National Day of Mourning
ABBOTSFORD — Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, has declared Sept. 19 a National Day of Mourning and a national holiday in recognition of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. The City of Abbotsford, like other government offices across the country, will be observing this day as a national holiday.
Mayor Henry Braun said the city will be joining all Canadians in mourning the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
“The Queen led an incredible life of public service and reigned with dignity, class, and humility. Her love of Canada was well known, and her dedication to serving this country was steadfast,” Braun said. “On behalf of the City of Abbotsford, I offer sincere condolences to the members of the Royal Family during this immense time of grief.”
City facilities will be operating under statutory holiday hours and closures. Furthermore, the council meeting and public hearing set for that day will be cancelled.
