CHILLIWACK — He waited until the last day to officially submit his candidacy paperwork, but incumbent Councillor Jason Lum is just as ready and eager to serve his constituents for another four years on the Chilliwack City Council.

Lum confirmed his plans Friday evening (Sept. 9) to run for re-election as a tireless advocate on behalf of Chilliwack constituents.

“After careful consideration, and taking the time to speak with my family and close friends, I have decided to put my name forward for a fourth and final term on Council,” Lum explained in a statement.

Lum says he’s been recognized for his “powerful voice for the City of Chilliwack and the Fraser Valley,” as he has fought to tackle the challenges that come with a growing city.

“We’re in an exciting time in the City of Chilliwack, and I want to be a part of shaping the next four years. I have the energy and proven experience to contribute, and I’m looking forward to a lively campaign.” Lum said.

His council portfolio has included deputy mayor, Transportation Advisory Committee, Public Safety Committee, the Chilliwack Creative Commission, the Chilliwack Innovation Network, as well as a Co-Chair for the Mayor’s Taskforce on Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility. He also completed his term on the executive of the Lower Mainland Local Government Association, after being elected president by his peers in local governments across the region.

Lum says his consistent efforts on behalf of the City have helped raise awareness around issues from homelessness outreach services to infrastructure investment, and climate resilience. Lum is also a four-term board chair of the Fraser Valley Regional District and was most recently appointed to the Fraser Basin Leadership Committee on Regional Flood Management.

Prior to his election to public office, Lum was the youngest elected president of the Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce and a board member on a number of local charitable and non-profit organizations. Lum also owns a small organic farm and has enjoyed the challenge of getting his hands dirty while learning the ins and outs of growing and selling produce.

Lum was chosen as one of the University of the Fraser Valley’s “Top 40,” which recognizes 40 outstanding alumni whose ideas, passion, leadership and achievements have helped shape UFV and the communities they serve.

Lum, his wife Sheila and their two-year-old son Cedar reside in Yarrow. Lum says he has kept a close connection with voters from the moment he was elected and maintained a consistent presence on social media by answering questions and interacting with constituents.

His campaign platform and website will be launched in the coming days and will outline key platform ideas as well as opportunities to meet and share ideas. You can find him on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jasonlumcampaign; Twitter: @jasonlum; or on Instagram: jasonlum.chwk.
