30-hectare fire erupts west of Hope, bringing hazy skies and a strong smell of smoke to Chilliwack
HOPE— A blaze estimated at 30 hectares and designated as out of control by provincial fire authorities has broken out in what’s called the Flood Falls Trail wildfire near exit 165 along Highway 1.
B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) and Hope Fire Department are responding to a fire about eight kilometres west of Hope, according to a posting on social media this morning (Sept. 9) at 9:16 a.m.
The fire is burning on an extremely steep slope at rank three, according to BCWS, meaning crews are experiencing a moderately vigorous surface fire with an organized flame front and occasional candling.
Ground crews, response officers and five helicopters are currently on scene with additional fire personnel on their way.
