CHILLIWACK — The search for a missing fisherman whose boat capsized back on August 7 in the Fraser River has come to a devastating, heartbreaking end.

The body of a missing 40-year old-fisherman from Chehalis has been found, according to a statement issued Tuesday (Aug. 30) by the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment in Chilliwack.

While Chilliwack RCMP did not name the victim in its statement, social media reports confirm it is indeed Dustin Williams.

Out of respect for the family, and per Stó:lō protocols, Fraser Valley Today is not showing a picture of the late fisherman.

Shortly after 4 p.m. on Monday, August 29, Chilliwack RCMP were notified of the discovery of a man’s body in the Fraser River near Teathquathill Road in Chilliwack.

According to a statement issued Tuesday, Chilliwack RCMP have confirmed that this is the same fisherman who was reported missing after a boat capsized in the river earlier in August. The man’s family has been notified and would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to the many community members and first responders who participated in search efforts.

“Our hands go up to everyone who has helped with the search and helped us to bring our Dustin home,” the Facebook post said. “We cannot express our appreciation enough to all those who were searching and taking care of the family. Your continued prayers, love offerings, searching, and company have helped us get through this.”

Anyone that would like to support the family of Dustin Williams is welcome to email love offerings to Jewel Francis-Leon at jewel.francis@stolonation.bc.ca

The RCMP said the family has asked for privacy now as they grieve.

Neither the RCMP nor B.C. Coroners Service have any more information available to share at this time.
