Fire approximately 1.5 hectares in size breaks out near Sasquatch Provincial Park

HARRISON LAKE — A fire has broken out on the east side of Harrison Lake north of Sasquatch Provincial Park and Hicks Lake.

The B.C. Wildfire Service reported Friday afternoon (Aug. 19) that the fire is 1.5 hectares in size. The suspected cause is unknown at this time.

The nearest road in proximity to the fire is Slollicum Creek Forest Service Road.

Provincially, there are presently 14 fires in the Coastal Fire Centre, 13 in the Northwest Fire Centre, 32 in the Kamloops Fire Centre, and 41 in the Southeast Fire Centre.

The B.C. Wildfire Service says wildfire activity remains seasonal in most of the province with heightened activity within the Kamloops and Southeast fire centres. As temperatures stay high and further drying of fuels occurs, it says the fire service will see an increase in fire behaviour and activity in these areas.
