City of Chilliwack urges residents to consider alternatives to cars as it moves forward with pedestrian and cycling-oriented active transportation plan
CHILLIWACK — They’re not calling for motorists to give up their SUV or pick-up truck.
But the City of Chilliwack simply doesn’t want people getting into their vehicles as the only means of transportation around town.
On the same day that it adopted an ambitious plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40 per cent by 2030, Chilliwack City Council approved the city’s Active Transportation Plan at its meeting yesterday (Aug. 16), to help guide future investments in active transportation to support a more balanced and sustainable transportation system.
Active transportation refers to all forms of human-powered transportation that move people and goods to and from destinations, according to a statement from the City.
