CHILLIWACK — A 45-year-old Abbotsford man is facing impaired driving charges after police determined he was responsible for a vehicle collision involving two utility poles along Vedder Road in Sardis over the weekend.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Saturday (Aug. 13) evening, Chilliwack RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver after witnesses observed a collision on Vedder Road near Wells Road.

A subsequent investigation revealed that a pickup truck driven by the unidentified 45-year-old Abbotsford man struck two utility poles resulting in downed utility wires and significant damage to the vehicle.

Front-line RCMP officers from the Chilliwack detachment responded to the scene within minutes and secured the area before launching its investigation.

“Impaired driving is illegal and dangerous,” said Sergeant Krista Vrolyk, media spokesperson for the Chilliwack RCMP. “Sadly, each year in British Columbia, 65 people die in crashes involving impaired driving. It is fortunate that no one was hurt as a result of this incident.”

Chilliwack RCMP remind all drivers to plan ahead for a safe ride home by designating a sober driver. They urge motorists to avoid driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol, contact a sober friend or family member, call a taxi, and plan ahead for a sober driver so that everyone gets home safely.
