ABBOTSFORD — The City of Abbotsford has won the Canada’s Best Municipal Flag contest.

The contest, launched by Municipal World, a magazine publication, said their team had selected 64 municipal flags from across the country; and representation of each province and territory was a priority.

The website read: “Our team used the good design principles from the North American Vexillological Association as guidance and checked for originality when compiling this initial list.”

In a statement, the City of Abbotsford said it is honoured to win Canada’s Best Municipal Flag contest.

“Abbotsford is known as the hub of the Fraser Valley and our flag symbolizes this. The gold disc and the crossing of the blue bars represent Abbotsford, at the centre of the roads running through the Fraser Valley. The strawberry flower and green background reference the rich agricultural lands, meadows, and forests associated with our city. The flag is an important symbol of our community and we are proud to see it recognized by Municipal World and voters from across Canada.”

As the winner of the contest, the Abbotsford flag will be featured on the cover of Municipal World’s November issue.
