Independent Investigations Office (IIO) investigating death of man in Mission

MISSION — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) is investigating the death of a man in Mission.

Early Saturday morning (July 16), police responded to a report of a man pacing the northbound sidewalk on the Mission Bridge.

It is reported that the man had a weapon and climbed over the railing when an officer attempted to take him into custody. The man subsequently fell into the water below.

The man was pronounced deceased after search and rescue located his body a short time later.

The IIO is conducting an investigation to determine if police actions or inactions had a role to play in the death.
