ABBOTSFORD — Six single farmers from across the province will be looking for love on CTV’s reality series called Farming for Love.

One of those farmers is Abbotsford’s Gurleen Maan of Maan Farms.

“I was approached by a casting producer who explained the show to me,” Maan said. “I was definitely nervous at first, but it seemed like an exciting opportunity to find love.”

The third generation farmer said living on a farm can be isolating, so when the opportunity to be cast in Farming for Love presented itself, she was thrilled to find a new way of meeting people, rather than swiping left and right on dating apps.

“I’m excited, I’m a little bit nervous, but I guess it comes with the territory,” Mann said enthusiastically.

She expanded that her apprehension comes from veering off from cultural norms.

“Having people see myself as a South Asian woman in agriculture, and also a South Asian woman in general on television finding love, I think that’s definitely a big accomplishment for me,” Mann said.

Executive producer of Farming for Love, Erin Haskett, said featuring Mann as a South Asian female farmer was exciting and hopes that the show will be successful in finding her a match.

“It was important for us to bring diverse perspectives to the series and to represent who our Canadian farmers are in 2022. Gurleen is an excellent reflection of that,” Haskett said.

In line with the premise of the show, Mann is hoping to find love and said she’s ready to reap the benefits of finding her other half.

“I’m looking for someone that’s patient, ambitious, intelligent, and also someone that can understand my lifestyle,” she said. “That pushes me and challenges me to be the best version of myself.”

Filming for the unscripted reality series begins in the fall, and the show will air in 2023.

“It’s a big move for South Asian families to find love and get hitched in this way,” Mann said matter-of-factly. “I’m nervous about pushing past those expectations; I’m also 34, so I think culturally I’ve passed the adequate marriage age.”

The designated “director of fun” added that her casting profile is currently online, and singles wishing to apply can visit https://more.ctv.ca/ctv/farmer-gurleen.html.
