Formula One championship leader Max Verstappen takes pole for Montreal Grand Prix
MONTREAL — Red Bull’s Max Verstappen took the pole position for Sunday’s Montreal Grand Prix in a soggy qualifying battle against the elements.
The Formula One championship leader and winner in Baku, Azerbaijan last weekend posted a time of one minute 21.299 seconds in what he called tricky conditions.
Alpine’s Fernando Alonso qualified second with a time of 1:21.944 on his final lap, while Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz was third (1:22.096).
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton moved up to fourth with his final lap.
