LANGLEY — DriveBC says Highway 1 between 232 Street and 264 Street is closed Thursday morning (Sept. 19) due to a vehicle incident.

According to social media posts from the provincial agency, Hwy. 1 is closed. A detour is in effect via Fraser Highway.

The next update will be posted at approximately 7:30 a.m.

One person who passed the accident scene going westbound said the accident involved a motorcycle and a semi truck. Authorities have since clarified the fatal collision involved a motorcycle and car.

Earlier this week, Langley RCMP said a 22-year-old Abbotsford motorcyclist died after he collided head-on with a Dodge pickup Tuesday night (Sept. 17).

Langley RCMP say they were notified at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening about a serious motor vehicle collision in the 26900 block of Fraser Highway. Frontline RCMP members attended the scene as did Township of Langley Fire Department crews and BC Emergency Health Services personnel.

According to a statement from Langley RCMP spokesperson Corporal Craig van Herk, an initial investigation by authorities determined the driver of a Dodge pickup truck was stopped in the centre lane of Fraser Highway while waiting to complete a left turn to go east from the highway. A motorcycle traveling west on Fraser Highway collided with the front of the truck. Multiple bystanders and witnesses immediately rendered first aid to the motorcyclist. However, police say the driver of the motorcycle, a 22-year-old Abbotsford man, died from his injuries at the scene.

Police say the driver of the Dodge pickup remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Langley RCMP’s General Investigation Section (GIS) attended along with the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS).

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the collision, those with dashcam footage, or any potential witnesses, to contact the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200.
